Although none of her family members had any background in the veterinary world, Dr. Jun Yu was born with an innate desire to help the earth’s creatures. She’s always known that a career in the veterinary profession was her true calling! Her passion never wavered, and now Dr. Yu betters the lives of pets on a daily basis as an Associate Veterinarian with Whitestone Veterinary Care and the Animal Medical Hospital.
Dr. Yu was born in China but grew up in Bayside, Queens, New York with her parents. After earning her undergraduate degree at Cornell University, Dr. Yu was accepted to Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine to earn her Doctorate. She then practiced in Minnesota for three years after graduation before returning to her home in Bayside.
At home, Dr. Yu enjoys spending time with her husband and pets. Together, they care for a rescued kitty named Bing-Bing, a hamster named Enstatite and a shrimp tank. Dr. Yu fell in love with Bing-Bing after a client brought him in, half-frozen and in critical condition. His chances for survival were small, but Dr. Yu along with other staff members helped him to recover and little by little he became a regular kitten, playful as ever.
When she isn’t tending to the needs of pets here at the hospital or enjoying the company of her own animal companions, Dr. Yu enjoys karaoke, gardening and paddles weekly as part of a dragon boat team.
She is also a talented artist who enjoys painting and drawing and has designed T-shirts for clubs in her high school, college, and veterinary school, and one of her watercolor paintings is even hanging at Purdue!
